Data We Collect and Purposes

When you use critiq, we process the following personal data:

  • Google Account: profile name and email address, obtained via Google OAuth. Used to identify you, link your projects to your account, and send you transactional communications related to the service.
  • Story Texts: the text you submit for evaluation is stored linked to your account so you can review and re-analyse it. We do not share it with third parties or use it to train our own AI models.
  • Payment Data: transactions are handled entirely by Stripe, Inc. critiq does not store or process card data.
  • Usage Data: we may log technical information (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security, diagnostics, and service improvement.

Legal Basis for Processing

  • Performance of a contract (Art. 6.1.b GDPR): to provide the service you have signed up for.
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6.1.f GDPR): for the security and improvement of the service.
  • Consent (Art. 6.1.a GDPR): for marketing communications, where applicable.

Retention Period

We retain your data for as long as you maintain an active account with critiq. If you request account deletion, we will erase your personal data within 30 days, unless applicable law requires a longer retention period.

Recipients

We may share data with the following providers, always under GDPR-compliant data processing agreements:

  • Anthropic, PBC — text processing to generate the literary evaluation (texts are sent to their API and not retained for training).
  • Stripe, Inc. — payment processing.
  • Google LLC — OAuth authentication.
  • Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc.) — transactional email delivery (purchase confirmations and service communications).
  • Trustpilot A/S — review invitations: when a purchase is confirmed, your email address is shared so they can send you a review invitation.
  • Vercel, Inc. and Neon, Inc. — hosting infrastructure and database.

Some of these providers are based in the United States. The transfer relies on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

Your Rights

You may exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing, and portability at any time by writing to critiq.review@proton.me. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Cookies

critiq uses strictly necessary technical cookies for authentication and service functionality (user session). We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
